HC Deb 12 October 1915 vol 74 c1186
30. Mr. HOHLER

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether, in the case of men in His Majesty's Navy who have been saved on the sinking of their ship, he will intimate to those in command that it is desirable to grant them home leave if the exigencies of the Service admit of this and the men desire it?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Dr. Macnamara)

Officers in command are fully aware of the desirability of giving leave when practicable, and leave is granted when the needs of the Service allow it.

Mr. HOHLER

Does not the right hon. Gentleman think this is a special class of case, and that in this particular special class of case the men should have particular consideration?

Dr. MACNAMARA

I quite recognise that, and I am quite sure that in special cases such as these the commanding officer will give the leave, if it is possible to do so.
