HC Deb 17 May 1915 vol 71 cc1987-8
27. Mr. FFRENCH

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether vesting orders will soon be issued respecting the Box- well and Jacob estates, South Wexford, as the agreements were signed over seven years ago?

The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Mr. Birrell)

Having regard to the position of these estates on the principal register of direct sales (all cash) and to the claims of other estates in priority thereon, in which purchase agreements were lodged at earlier dates, it is not possible for the Commissioners to state when they will be in a position to advance the purchase money and vest the holdings in the tenants.

Mr. FFRENCH

Are the Estates Commissioners about to imitate the Land Judges Court in Ireland, in which estates are kept 20, 25, and even 30 years, or until all the people on the list of rentals are dead?

Mr. BIRRELL

No. They will not pursue that course.
