HC Deb 04 March 1915 vol 70 cc965-6
59. Colonel LOCKWOOD

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been called to the offer of payment appearing in many of the daily newspapers requesting that officers' letters from the front may be forwarded to them for publication; and, in view of paragraph 452, King's Regulations, whereby the writers are held responsible if the person to whom such letters are addressed publishes them, as also of the fact that such publication is an offence for which punishments to the writers are being awarded, if he will take steps to impress upon these newspapers that by their action they become accessory to a military crime against which orders have been issued to the Expeditionary Force by headquarters?

Mr. TENNANT

This matter has already been considered, and it is hoped that a practicable solution of the problem will shortly be found.
