HC Deb 28 June 1915 vol 72 c1471
21. Mr. PETO

asked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the shortage of assistance for tradespeople generally throughout the country during the War, he will take steps to see that juries are summoned exclusively from men of more than military age belonging to the leisured classes, or who have retired from active business?

Sir J. SIMON

I hardly think it would be possible to alter the law relating to juries at this time, but claims for exemption in suitable cases will, I am sure, be sympathetically considered by the proper judicial authorities.
