§ 6. Mr. JOWETTasked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he is aware that men who joined the Royal Army Medical Corps have been transferred against their will to Infantry regiments; if he will say under whose directions this has been done; and whether there is any Act of Parliament which authorises it to be done?
§ Mr. TENNANTTransfers such as that in question have been made under the authority of the Army Amendment Act (No. 2), 1915.
§ Mr. RAFFANIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that members of the Society of Friends, and others who have a conscientious objection to joining fighting units, have joined the Royal Army Medical Corps in order to serve their country in that way, and will he give effect to their convictions?
§ Mr. TENNANTThat will be all taken into consideration. It is very difficult to give effect to everyone's conscientious objections in a time of war.
