HC Deb 10 June 1915 vol 72 c375
72. Mr. WARDLE

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether he is aware that men employed at the Maryle-bone branch of the Army Clothing Department are only paid at the rate of 6d. an hour, that no overtime rate is paid, that the working hours are sixty-three per week, and when Sunday is included, as it generally is, the hours are very long, that the lavatory accommodation, considering the number of men employed, is very scanty; and whether he will consider the advisability of bringing the wages more into keeping with the Fair Wages Clause, establishing an overtime rate, especially for Sunday work, and make inquiry into the general conditions prevailing, which are causing a great deal of dissatisfaction amongst the men?

Mr. FORSTER

Except as regards the lavatory accommodation my information does not agree with that of the hon. Member. The lavatory accommodation is being extended. The obligation to observe the terms of the Fair-Wages Resolution is fully admitted by the Department.
