HC Deb 07 June 1915 vol 72 c67
17. Mr. DENNISS

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware of the desire among the members of the Metropolitan special police constabulary that they should be provided with uniforms in view of the duties imposed upon them in relief of the regular police and in case of popular commotion; and whether he will consider the practicability of giving effect to this desire?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir John Simon)

The value of the services of the Metropolitan special constables is fully recognised, but there are substantial difficulties in the way of this suggestion. The question, however, of providing them with a distinctive headgear is under consideration.
