HC Deb 20 July 1915 vol 73 cc1313-4
13. Mr. KING

asked the President of the Board of Education whether, in view of the London education authority having reduced its vote for school cleaning by£66,000, he will say whether the Board's inspectors have been, or will be, instructed to permit school premises to remain in a less cleanly condition than before the War?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Herbert Lewis)

The answer is in the negative. I cannot anticipate the possible results of such a measure of economy, for the adoption of which the local education authority do not require the permission of the Board or of their inspectors.

Sir J. D. REES

What is the total amount of the provision which admits of a reduction of£60,000; will any such figure be continued at any time?

Mr. LEWIS

I am not aware of the total amount, but I shall be glad to inquire for the hon. Member.
