HC Deb 20 July 1915 vol 73 cc1314-5
19. Mr. JOWETT

asked the President of the Local Government Board if he will say what action he is taking to ensure the provision of clean and sanitary housing accommodation for volunteers who have enlisted for work in the production of munitions of war in the towns to which they are about to be sent?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. Hayes Fisher)

This question is not being lost sight of by the Minister of Munitions and my right hon. Friend. In most cases the workers will, no doubt, prefer to select their own accommodation to suit their particular requirements. Where they find difficulty in securing suitable accommodation they should apply to the council of the district in which they will have to reside, who will, I am sure, do their best to assist.
