6. Mr. GREENWOODasked why, seeing that Sir Ian Hamilton's dispatch concerning the operations in the Gallipoli Peninsula, up to the 5th May last, bears date 20th May last, it has been so long withheld from publication?
§ The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Tennant)This question is not one within the discretion of the Press Bureau, and my right hon. Friend has-asked me to answer it. Dispatches are written primarily to inform His Majesty's Government of the progress of the operations from the military and professional point of view, and the date upon which they may properly be given to the public requires and receives special consideration in each case with reference to the nature of the operations described, and the features of the military situation at the moment.
