HC Deb 05 July 1915 vol 73 cc16-7
22. Sir E. CORNWALL

asked the Home Secretary if he has received any information to the effect that German-made goods are now being imported through neutral countries into Great Britain?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Brace)

A very careful watch is kept on all imports from neutral countries, and in any case where there is any ground for suspecting that goods are of enemy origin they are detained by the Customs authorities for inquiry, and if satisfactory evidence of neutral origin is not forthcoming the goods are seized. I believe these measures are proving effective, but if my hon. Friend has in mind any instance to the contrary I shall be glad to investigate it.
