HC Deb 23 February 1915 vol 70 c167
31. Mr. R. GWYNNE

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office if he can see his way to increase the allowance of 2s. 3d. a day per man at present given to occupiers of licensed premises in respect of billeting, in view of the increased cost of the necessaries of life and of rates and taxes?

Mr. BAKER

It is not considered that any increase of this rate would be justified at present.

Mr. GWYNNE

Does not the hon. Gentleman realise that the cost of living has increased, and that what was considered a proper amount before may now turn out to be inadequate?

Mr. BAKER

I do not think the amount is inadequate at this moment.
