HC Deb 22 February 1915 vol 70 cc31-2
71. Sir WILLIAM BYLES

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether an officer on receiving his commission and being ordered to join his regiment, often hundreds of miles distant, is required to reach it at his own expense; and, if so, whether he will consider the propriety of placing this burden upon the country?

Mr. BAKER

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. Journeys undertaken after joining, when duly authorised and on the public service, are paid for out of public funds.
