HC Deb 17 February 1915 vol 69 cc1133-4
80. Mr. W. THORNE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he will state what contracts have been held during the last six months for the supply of troops, Territorials and otherwise, by J. Lyons and Company, Limited; whether during that period they employed as buyer one Gottlieb Link; and whether Gottlieb Link is of British nationality?

Mr. BAKER

Messrs. J. Lyons and Company, Limited, have held since the 1st October last the contract for the supply of bread at several camps in the Salisbury Plain area. They held until 31st December a contract for supply to the Territorial troops to the White City, and they may also have obtained locally other contracts for supply to Territorials or canteens, but these have not been reported to the War Office. I have no information as to the names of the buyers employed by the firm.

Mr. W. THORNE

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether he is aware that the man mentioned in the question has been summoned on several occasions and fined, and that on the last occasion he was sentenced to four months' imprisonment?

Mr. BAKER

I have no information of that.

Mr. W. THORNE

Will the hon. Gentleman make inquiries about him?
