HC Deb 15 February 1915 vol 69 cc884-5
32. Mr. MacCALLUM SCOTT

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that the calling out of numbers of medical students in the Territorial Force and their enlistment in other forces is likely to result in a shortage of doctors at an early date to the injury both of the nation and of the Army; whether since this fact became known many medical students have been willing to return from the Army to the universities in order to qualify as medical practitioners at the earliest possible date; and whether the Secretary of State is prepared to permit such persons to resume their medical course?

Mr. TENNANT

Arrangements have been made for the return to their professional studies of medical students serving in medical units of the Territorial Force. Students in their final year of study who have only their final examinations to pass may also be released from combatant corps if they apply.

Mr. MacCALLUM SCOTT

No student under circumstances such as those described will be liable to have his application refused?

Mr. TENNANT

That is so.
