HC Deb 10 February 1915 vol 69 c571
70. Mr. HERBERT CRAIG

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office the number of trawlers that have been hired by the War Office to serve as examination vessels; and whether he can give the House any information as to the circumstances under which the owners of trawlers in the service of the War Office are receiving more than four times the amount of the monthly rate of hire received by the owners of exactly similar trawlers requisitioned for the service of the Admiralty?

Mr. BAKER

Two trawlers only are at present hired by the War Office as examination vessels. The conditions of the hiring and the services provided under the agreement differ so greatly from those in the case of the Admiralty that no fair comparison of the rates can be made.

Mr. H. CRAIG

Can the hon. Gentleman give the figures?

Mr. BAKER

No, but if my hon. Friend would put down a question I will endeavour to do so.
