HC Deb 10 February 1915 vol 69 c552
17. Mr. FALLE

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty if he is aware that the retired officer of the Royal Marines compulsorily recalled to service ceases (under Order in Council, 12th March, 1903) to draw his retired pay, while in the case of the Army the retired officer in the same position draws the pay of his rank in addition to any retired pay he may be in receipt of; and if he will see that the officers of the Royal Marines shall be treated as fairly and favourably as the non-commissioned officers and men who serve under them (who receive retired pay as well as full pay) and as is the case in the sister Service?

Dr. MACNAMARA

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part, the regulations under which these officers serve are, in respect of the point at issue, common to both Naval and Marine officers, and it is not proposed to follow the Army practice in the matter. I may refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave to the Noble Lord the Member for Portsmouth on a similar subject on Monday.
