HC Deb 09 February 1915 vol 69 c406
16. Mr. TYSON WILSON

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether the British Portland Cement Manufacturers, Sundon, Bedfordshire, are contractors to the Admiralty; if so, whether he is aware that some of the labourers employed by this firm are only being paid 3d. per hour instead of 5d., and also that no overtime rate is paid; and whether he will make inquiries into the matter with a view to the strict observance of the Fair-Wages Clause?

Dr. MACNAMARA

The British Portland Cement Manufacturers hold an Admiralty contract for the supply of Portland cement. Inquiries are being made into the rates paid to labourers, and I will let my hon. Friend know the result in due course
