HC Deb 09 February 1915 vol 69 c394
29. Colonel YATE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India if he can now state what special measures have been taken by the Government of India to prevent the selling up of land or property belonging to Indian soldiers during their absence on field service abroad?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Mr. Charles Roberts)

The Government of India are considering in consultation with local governments the terms of a proposed law to safeguard the interests of Indian soldiers on field service abroad.

Colonel YATE

May I ask whether the hon. Gentleman will be able to give a further answer within a reasonable time?

Mr. CHARLES ROBERTS

Yes, Sir, I hope so. Of course meanwhile the courts have large ordinary powers to defer suits in a proper case.
