Mr. WILLIAM THORNEasked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he is aware that a number of soldiers of the King's Own Royal Lancashire Regiment, stationed at Hendon, Sunderland, have been sent to the front without being given leave to visit their respective families and friends; and if he can state whether it is the practice to send soldiers on active service without an opportunity of furlough?
§ Mr. TENNANTFurlough is and will be granted when possible, but the possibility must continue to depend on the exigencies of the service.
