HC Deb 21 December 1915 vol 77 cc198-9
54. Mr. BOOTH

asked the Prime Minister whether different whips requesting the attendance of hon. Members at this House are issued by the Government; by whom are they signed; and whether he will consider the issuing of a joint or united whip?

The PRIME MINISTERS

I am informed that whips in similar terms are issued to supporters of the three parties represented in the Government. The whip issued to the Liberal party is signed by the hon. Member for Dumfries, that to the Unionist party by the Noble Lord the Member for Chichester, and that to the Labour party by the hon. Member for Norwich. It was considered that this course was preferable to that suggested in the last part of the question.

Mr. BOOTH

Would it not also help the House to get rid of the old party bias if my suggestion were adopted?

The PRIME MINISTER

I will consider that.
