HC Deb 21 December 1915 vol 77 cc186-7
30. Mr. GINNELL

asked the Postmaster-General whether he has caused any students to be expelled from the Atlantic Wireless College, Cahirciveen, for their alleged political opinions; and what the opinions were, under what Statute they are criminal, and what evidence he has of them?

Mr. SAMUEL

It is the case that two pupils have recently been excluded from instruction in wireless telegraphy at the Atlantic Wireless College, Cahirciveen, in accordance with the requirements of the military authorities. Those requirements apply equally to all wireless schools in the United Kingdom.

Mr. GINNELL

Can the right hon. Gentleman say what the particular opinions were upon which they were expelled and under what law they are criminal?

Mr. SAMUEL

The action was taken under the Statute which gives me powers of general control over the use of wireless apparatus. It is, of course, of great importance that no one should receive training at our schools of wireless telegraphy if he not regarded as absolutely trustworthy.

Mr. GINNELL

Then the right hon. Gentleman cannot state the political opinions for which they have been expelled or the law under which those opinions are criminal.
