HC Deb 27 April 1915 vol 71 cc583-4
84. Sir WILLIAM BYLES

asked whether the accused man in a murder case just reported from Meerut was acquitted by the Sessions judge; whether the acquittal was successfully appealed against by the local Government to the High Court at Allahabad, and the accused person, without any fresh evidence, sentenced to death; and whether such judicial methods are having the consideration of His Majesty's Secretary of State with a view to their alteration?

Mr. C. ROBERTS

The Secretary of State has no official information on this case. The provisions of the Indian Criminal Procedure Code, under which appeals from acquittals are preferred to the High Courts, are at present under consideration in the Imperial Legislative Council in connection with a Bill for the general amendment of the Code.
