§ 17. Mr. BENTHAMasked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether, now that he has ascertained who was to blame for the death by drowning of seven soldiers whilst carrying out orders at Gainsborough, he will relieve the officer concerned from his command?
§ Mr. TENNANTThe officer responsible has had a terrible lesson which will remain with him all his life. His error was one of judgment. I do not think it would be for the good of the Service to remove him. It is not proposed to take any disciplinary action in this very regrettable case.
