HC Deb 21 April 1915 vol 71 cc257-8
36. Mr. KING

asked the Attorney-General whether, under the rules issued for trials under the Defence of the Realm (Amendment) Act, accused persons, unable through poverty to procure legal assistance, will have the benefits accorded to them under the Poor Prisoners' Defence Act?

Mr. BECK (Lord of the Treasury)

This is not a matter for rules, but directions have been given to secure that in proper cases accused persons get suitable legal aid. Such aid has already been given in one serious case, and will be given in like cases so far as necessary.
