HC Deb 15 September 1914 vol 66 c872
40. Sir IVOR HERBERT

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that a large number of unclaimed remittances on account of separation allowances are lying in the Post Offices throughout the country; whether any steps have been taken for establishing a system of payment through local authorities, and whether he has considered the possibility of applying to the payment of these allowances the system of payment through the Post Office which is in force for the payment of Old Age Pensions?

Mr. H. BAKER

I have no information that any large number of remittances is lying unclaimed, but wrong addresses or removals may account for a few. As I stated yesterday, early in October a system of direct weekly payment will be instituted.
