HC Deb 15 September 1914 vol 66 c861
48. Sir J. D. REES

asked whether any German firms or individuals trading in this country hold contracts for the supply of arms and ammunition, boots, or wearing apparel for the troops?

Mr. BAKER

I cannot say that among the many thousands of contractors at work there may not be some with German affinities, and at the present time it would not be possible to make a searching investigation.

Sir J. D. REES

In the case of a firm with a head office in Hamburg and a branch in London, would there be any objection, under the Trading Bill, to contracts or business with such a firm?

Mr. BAKER

It would depend upon the particular circumstances. I cannot answer a general question.

Sir J. D. REES

The thing is of frequent occurrence.
