asked the President of the Board of Trade if he can make a statement regarding special railway rates for the conveyance of timber, coal, etc., between Bo'ness and Grangemouth and Leith and other ports, consequent on the closing by the Admiralty of the ports of the Upper Forth?

Mr. ROBERTSON

This question is still under consideration.

13. Mr. PRATT

asked the President of of the Board of Trade whether, in view of the dislocation of industry in Bo'ness and Grangemouth and other places consequent on the closing by the Admiralty of the ports of the Upper Forth, he has taken any special steps to find employment for the displaced workmen?

Mr. ROBERTSON

The Board of Trade have had this matter under careful consideration, and steps have already been taken to open a temporary Labour Exchange at Grangemouth for the registration of unemployed workmen.

20. Mr. PRATT

asked the Secretary for Scotland whether, in view of the amount of unemployment threatened in Bo'ness and Grangemouth and district consequent on the closing by the Admiralty of the ports of the Upper Forth, he can take any steps, in conjunction with the local authorities, to provide work for the displaced workmen?

The situation caused by the closing of the ports on the Upper Forth is engaging the attention of the Government.

Will my right hon. Friend call the attention of the Local Government Board in Scotland to certain schemes at present before the Department?
