HC Deb 27 November 1914 vol 68 cc1498-9
22. Mr. WATT

asked the Lord Advocate whether he is aware that there is no sheriff officer at present acting in the county of Berwick; that inconvenience is suffered on account of this; and will he say when he proposes either to make such an appointment or see that it is made?

Mr. MUNRO

The answer to the first part of my hon. and learned Friend's question is in the affirmative; to the second in the negative. The Sheriff informs me that no inconvenience has resulted from the existing state of matters. I have no power to take either of the courses suggested in the last part of the question.

Mr. WATT

Are we to gather from that that they are no good in Scotland and, if so, will he do away with them?

Mr. MUNRO

I think that will be too large a deduction to draw from my answer.
