HC Deb 19 November 1914 vol 68 cc537-8
10. Mr. HOGGE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty why joining the ranks of the Royal Naval Reserve Brigade while waiting to hear the results of an application for a commission was regarded as a handicap in securing the same?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Dr. Macnamara)

It is no handicap. On the contrary, since the Selection Committee completed its work, care has been taken to give preferance for commissions to men in the ranks, who are recommended by the commanding officers.

Mr. HOGGE

If I show my right hon. Friend a letter in which the First Lord said so, will he reconsider the case?

Dr. MACNAMARA

I shall be interested to see the letter.
