HC Deb 19 November 1914 vol 68 cc547-8
36. Mr. HOGGE

asked the Under-Secretary for War whether the War Office still require to take over all commercial motors of three and four tons now building; whether they could release a certain proportion, to allow firms who have already surrendered their motors to meet their business needs; and, if not now, how soon will it be before they can do so?

Mr. TENNANT

The Army Council are unable to release any motor lorries now being manufactured and are, in fact, still impressing such vehicles all over the country. I cannot say when the military requirements will be reduced.

Mr. HOGGE

Will my right hon. Friend say whether those firms who have already surrendered their lorries to the War Office will get first preference?

Mr. TENNANT

I should like notice of that question.
