HC Deb 18 November 1914 vol 68 c418
39. Mr. HOGGE

asked whether temporary clerks are working as much as twenty-eight hours' overtime in the week; and why the War Office cannot make more businesslike arrangements?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the WAR OFFICE (Mr. H. Baker)

I appreciate my hon. Friend's sympathy with those called upon to work overtime at the War Office. As many temporary clerks as the office itself and suitable adjacent offices can hold, subject to efficient supervision, have been and are being engaged. The twenty-eight hours quoted added to the normal forty-two hours weekly represents ten hours a day, of which the ten hours worked on Sunday all count, and are paid for as overtime.
