HC Deb 18 November 1914 vol 68 cc427-8
59. Sir CLEMENT KINLOCH-COOKE

asked the Under-Secretary for War whether he is aware that there are still several men in the different camps who are compelled to sleep on the ground without sufficient blankets and with no chance of changing their clothes; and whether he will consider the advisability of inviting the assistance of civilians to help the commanding officers in matters of this kind?

Mr. TENNANT

Inquiry is being made as to the alleged deficiency of blankets in particular cases. There are ample stocks of blankets in commands, and general officers commanding are authorised to issue as required. It has not been found possible at present to provide men with two suits of uniform, but every step possible is being taken to meet the deficiency.
