HC Deb 17 November 1914 vol 68 c312
8. Mr. HOGGE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in accordance with his speech of 7th October, he is proposing to take power in his Estimates to build new Government offices in Edinburgh?

Mr. GULLAND (Lord of the Treasury)

Having regard to the fact that the buildings on the site at Calton Hill cannot be vacated for some time, no provision for building new Government offices can usefully be made in next year's Estimates.

Mr. HOGGE

Are you taking any money for building?

Mr. GULLAND

On that site?

Mr. HOGGE

Yes.

Mr. GULLAND

I do not think so.
