HC Deb 19 May 1914 vol 62 cc1759-60
34. Mr. WORTHINGTON EVANS

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will publish a Report by the Government Actuary, giving the actuary's estimate, per 100,000 members, of the annual loss to societies from arrears of contributions and the annual gain to such societies by the reduction in benefits proposed in the draft Regulations relating to arrears; showing also how many members are expected to incur penalty arrears of sixteen weeks or less, sixteen to twenty weeks, twenty to twenty-six weeks, and more than twenty-six weeks, respectively?

Mr. W. BENN

The scheme is based on an actuarial equivalence which does not require such an estimate as the hon. Member desires. The Regulations referred to must, of course, be considered in conjunction with the proposal contained in my right hon. Friend's statement on the 4th May.

Mr. WORTHINGTON EVANS

put a question which could not be heard in the Reporters' Gallery.

Mr. W. BENN

They are based on actuarial estimates. The Regulations provide for returns of any loss incurred.

Mr. WORTHINGTON EVANS

Would the hon. Gentleman give us the actuarial figures so that we can judge for ourselves?

Mr. W. BENN

I will consider that point.
