HC Deb 07 May 1914 vol 62 c442
65. Mr. MOUNT

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in the Grant for public health purposes which he proposes in his Budget Statement, he includes any extra Grant for rural districts, as recommended in the Report of the Kempe Committee?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

The hon. Gentleman will find that the basis adopted for allocation is favourable to rural districts.

66. Mr. MOUNT

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in the new Grant from the Exchequer to the cost of education, any amount is included for a Grant to small schools on the lines of the recommendation of the Kempe Committee?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

There will be a Grant in respect of small schools.

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

Would these Grants require fresh legislation, or could they be made at once?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I do not think it would be necessary to have legislation for that particular Grant.

Mr. KING

May I ask, then, why it would have been necessary to carry legislation last year when it was proposed to give a Grant for the building of council schools, such legislation being opposed by hon. Members opposite, and the Grant therefore dropped?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I would require-notice of that question.
