HC Deb 06 May 1914 vol 62 c277
68. Mr. GINNELL

asked the Chief Secretary if he is now in a position to state what the Estates Commissioners have recently done towards acquiring for distribution among the landless and congested people the untenanted lands on the Reid and M'Endoo estate, near Rathowen, Westmeath; what the area of the land in question is; and whether there is any prospect of its being acquired and distributed?

Mr. BIRRELL

Proceedings have been instituted for the sale of the estate referred to under the Irish Land Act, 1903, including 143 acres of untenanted land which the owner proposes to sell to the Estates Commissioners for distribution and 70 acres of turbary to be vested in trustees for the benefit of the tenants. The Commissioners are not in a position at present to say when this estate may be reached in its order to be dealt with by them.
