HC Deb 06 May 1914 vol 62 cc262-3
23. Mr. WATT

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that expenses and costs have been charged in the collection of Inland Revenue Taxes in the county of Dumfries; will he say whether a similar process has yet been thought of or adopted in any part of England and Wales; and will he in future take steps to ensure that costs in the collection of taxes will be incurred on the same date in every part of the United Kingdom so as to ensure equality of treatment to all citizens?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Montagu)

The answer to the first two parts of the hon. Member's question is in the affirmative. With regard to the last part, I would again refer him to answers given in this House on 22nd April and 5th May of last year.

Mr. WATT

May we understand the hon. Gentleman is trying to bring about equality of treatment throughout the United Kingdom in this matter?

Mr. MONTAGU

There is no differentiation between different parts of the United Kingdom, but the actual dates must vary according to the circumstances of each locality.
