HC Deb 30 March 1914 vol 60 c812
32. Mr. WILLIAM THORNE

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether his attention has been called to the case of Edith Clark, a girl aged fourteen, an inmate of the West Ham Union; and, in view of the excellence of her contralto voice, will he give full power to the West Ham Board of Guardians to undertake her musical education?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

The matter is receiving my sympathetic consideration, and I have already arranged for one of my officers to confer with a deputation from the board of guardians on the subject.
