HC Deb 30 March 1914 vol 60 c809
23. Sir JOHN DEWAR

asked the Secretary for Scotland if application was made by crofters at Ebost, in Skye, to the Board of Agriculture over two years ago for small holdings on the farm of Ebost, tenanted by Mr. John Taylor; if Mr. Taylor renounced his lease last November, and the estate has relet the farm to the two sons of a neighbouring farmer; if the necessity of more land for the applicants for this farm is very pressing; and if, under the circumstances, he will urge the Board of Agriculture to take immediate steps to see that the farm of Ebost is made available for small holdings?

The SECRETARY for SCOTLAND (Mr. McKinnon Wood)

The Board of Agriculture prepared a scheme for new holdings on the farm of Ebost, but found that the landlord had sub-divided the land while the scheme was in preparation. I cannot yet say what effect this will have upon the scheme. The Board have several other schemes in the Island of Skye for the settlement of applicants.
