HC Deb 30 March 1914 vol 60 cc798-9
2. Mr. NEWMAN

asked whether, in consequence of the possible employment of the military and naval forces of the Crown on active service in Ireland, a temporary re-estimate has been made necessary of the striking force available in the case of sudden European emergency; whether information on this point has been sought by a Power of the entente; and whether assurances have been given that the combined naval and military operations for the subjugation of Ulster have been abandoned?

Mr. ACLAND

The answer to all the parts of the question is "No."

Mr. NEWMAN

May I ask for your direction, Mr. Speaker, with regard to the putting of supplementary questions?

Mr. SPEAKER

There are 149 questions on the Paper, and I would ask the House to restrict itself to putting only those supplementary questions which are absolutely necessary, because it is hard on hon. Members whose names come later on the Paper if they are prevented from asking their questions.
