§ 40. Sir PHILIP MAGNUSasked the President of the Board of Education the localities in which a large number of students who desire to attend technical classes are turned away from the door; the subjects of instruction in which those technical classes are held; and the local authorities who say that they are unable to spend more money for establishing technical classes?
Mr. PEASEInformation to this effect is continually reaching me from various quarters and in various ways, including, of course, the confidential reports of His Majesty's inspectors, but not in a form which lends itself to tabular statement. I think it is a matter of common knowledge that the development of technical education has been seriously arrested by financial pressure, and it is for this reason that the Government are contemplating increased aid to this branch of education.
§ Sir P. MAGNUSMay I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether he can give any specific instances in which "a large number of students who desire to attend technical classes are, turned away from the 24 door," as it would be very interesting to know where those are?
§ Mr. SPEAKERIf the hon. Member requires specific instances he had better give notice of a further question.
§ Sir P. MAGNUSIt is in the question.
§ Mr. SPEAKERThe hon. Member asks for specific instances.
§ Sir P. MAGNUSWill the right hon. Gentleman state the localities in which a large number of students desire to attend such classes, and are turned away from the doors?
§ Mr. SPEAKERQuestion 41, please.
