HC Deb 21 July 1914 vol 65 c265
78. Mr. FRANCIS MEEHAN

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether the Manorhamilton District Council have had to appear by counsel in Court, at considerable expense, on two occasions in connection with an application in the exercise of their powers as a sanitary authority to abate a nuisance at Kiltyclogher which was dangerous to the public health; whether they were not only refused the costs of their appearance in the case, but actually threatened to be condemned in the costs of two appearances by counsel; and will he take steps to secure that they be paid the costs to which the council has been put?

Mr. BIRRELL

It appears that the incident referred to in the question arose out of proceedings in the Land Judge's Court in connection with a question of contempt of Court on the part of the Manorhamilton Rural District Council. The matter is not one in which the Local Government Board can interfere.
