HC Deb 02 July 1914 vol 64 cc537-8
52. Mr. GWYNNE

asked the Prime Minister whether he will consider the advisability of making known at an early date the proposals of the Government regarding Amendments to the National Insurance Act and the future position of deposit contributors in particular, so that hon. Members may have an opportunity of discussing these proposals with members of approved societies and others interested before the matter is discussed in this House?

Mr. W. BENN

The Insurance Commissioners are conferring to-day with the Advisory Committee, on which all types of approved societies are fully represented, and any proposals of the character referred to will be introduced without avoidable delay.

Mr. GWYNNE

Does the hon. Gentleman expect we shall have this information next week, and does he realise how important it is that Members of this House should have an opportunity of discussing this matter and the Government's proposals with their constituents, so as to avoid another ghastly failure and muddle?
