HC Deb 02 July 1914 vol 64 c553
63. Mr. CHAPLIN

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether he can say, in view of the Division in the House of Commons on Tuesday last, when the Surrey County Council may hope to receive confirmation of the Order they passed a year ago, constituting the parishes of Coulsdon and Purley an urban district, which up till now they have with held?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

There is a valid petition under Section 57 (3) of the Local Government Act, 1888, against the Order constituting the urban district of Coulsdon and Purley, and, in the circumstances, a local inquiry must be held before the Local Government Board can determine whether the Order is to be confirmed or not. I will see that this inquiry is held as early as possible.
