HC Deb 24 February 1914 vol 58 c1593
62. Mr. TYSON WILSON

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has received applications from the officers at the Labour Exchanges for increased remuneration on account of the extra work and responsibility thrown upon them in connection with the payment of unemployment benefit through the Exchanges?

Mr. BURNS

Representations have been received from managers of Exchanges and from clerks in the Labour Exchange and Unemployment Insurance service as to their salaries and conditions of service. As regards both classes of officers, considerable improvements were effected on the introduction of unemployment insurance, and further improvements have recently been authorised by the Treasury.
