HC Deb 19 February 1914 vol 58 cc1118-9
39. Mr. RICHARD LAMBERT

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether the Departmental Committee appointed by him in September, 1912, to consider the conditions of service of the men employed in the yard craft has yet reported to him; if so, whether he can now state what alterations he proposes to make in their conditions; and whether he will take into consideration that they had no rise of pay when other dockyard employés received a rise in 1913, and will date any concessions now to be granted to yard craft men back to the date of the general rise in May last?

40. Sir CLEMENT KINLOCH-COOKE

asked whether the Departmental Committee appointed to inquire into the grievances of the yard craft men employed at the Royal dockyards have yet reported; if so, will he give the date when the Report was received and what reply, if any, has been sent to the petitions presented by the yard craft men in 1912; and, if no reply has yet been sent, whether he can say when an answer will be given?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Dr. Macnamara)

The Report, which was received at the beginning of the year, is receiving attention. A decision will be given as soon as possible, but I cannot forecast the exact date.

Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that pretty much the same answer was given twelve months ago?

Dr. MACNAMARA

I cannot imagine how that can be so, because the Committee was only appointed in October, 1912, and it has been very hard at work.
