HC Deb 19 February 1914 vol 58 c1114
29. Mr. WEDGWOOD

asked whether his attention has been called to the report in the "Colonial Provincial Reporter" of Sierra Leone of an application by Messrs. Lipton for privileges at Maherra under the Palm Oil Ordinance of that Colony; whether the natives regard it with some reluctance and misgiving; and what is the attitude towards such concessions of the District Commissioners who were present at the meeting between Messrs. Lipton and the chiefs?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Harcourt)

My attention has not been called to the report in question. I will ask the Governor for a report on the points mentioned by my hon. Friend; but in any case the consideration of this application will remain in abeyance for the present.
