HC Deb 19 February 1914 vol 58 c1129
48. Sir WALTER ESSEX

asked whether the right hon. Gentleman has in contemplation an inquiry by a Commission or otherwise into the progressive decline in the birth-rate in the United Kingdom?

The PRIME MINISTER

I understand that the matter is the subject of an inquiry on which the Local Government Hoard and the General Register Office are represented. It does not, therefore, seem that any further inquiry is necessary at present.
