44 and 48. Major HOPEasked (1) whether the recommendations of the Departmental Committee on Reformatory and Industrial Schools as regards increased Grants to schools and the institution of a superannuation scheme for staff will be made applicable to Scotland, or whether another Committee will be appointed to inquire into the conditions of reformatory and industrial schools in Scotland; and (2) whether Scotland will participate in the increased Grant to reformatory and industrial schools of 6d. per child per week, which is actually sanctioned in England and Wales from 1st April, 1914?
Mr. McKINNON WOODI propose to answer this question and No. 48 together. As regards superannuation, the teachers 765 in reformatory and industrial schools in Scotland are already included in the general superannuation scheme applicable to teachers in Scotland. On the other points raised, I have been in communication with the Treasury, but am not as yet in a position to make any definite statement. I propose to appoint a Committee to consider various questions relating to these schools.
Major HOPEWill the right hon. Gentleman guarantee that the Scottish staff shave in the superannuation scheme for teachers, and will not be put in any way in an inferior position to the English staff?
Mr. McKINNON WOODThe Scottish staff share an excellent superannuation scheme for Scottish teachers.
Mr. McKINNON WOODI do not know that the Local Government Grant has anything to do with the superannuation of teachers in industrial schools in Scotland. I cannot make any statement about the Grant until the matter is finally decided by the Treasury.
Major HOPEIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that at the present moment the Home Secretary has promised 6d. per week per child for the children in England and Wales, and will Scotland get the same?
